Tyler Abens
Tyler Abens is a graduate of Iowa State
University with a degree in Industrial Technology with
an emphasis in
Training and Development. After graduation, Tyler was
employed by Pella Windows in Pella with roles in Human
Resources
and Management. During his time in Pella, he did a great
deal
of required annual training sessions and weekly department
manager developmental training. He also helped as a teacher’s
assistant for the Dale Carnegie Course.
In 2003, Tyler and his wife Sara, moved back to
their hometown of Webster City and became a Realtor
team in the family business, Abens Realty. Tyler
became a Broker Associate in 2006 and is a top producer
listing and selling real estate full time recently
qualifying for the IAR Gold Individual Achievement
Award. Tyler is new to real estate instruction for
the Iowa Association but enjoys teaching and looks
forward to sharing his experiences in the real estate
world with pre and post licensees. |

Jan DeMott
As a former high school teacher (Bachelor of Science
in Education) Jan applies her knowledge of the learning
process to her real estate classes. Her classes are fast
paced, geared to a high level of learning, filled with
stimulating discussions and liberally sprinkled with anecdotes
about her experiences in real estate over the last 21 years.
Participants of Jan’s classes include words like:
informative, stimulating, enlightening knowledgeable as
well as entertaining. Students’ time in the classroom
will be worthwhile and will come away with ready-to-use
information.
Jan assures her classes to be enjoyable, almost fun-filled
as Jan epitomizes the philosophy that learning is a continuous
pathway to accomplishments. |

John Goede, ABR, CRB, CRS, GRI
A graduate from University of South Dakota, with a teaching
degree in Political Science, minors in music and math.
Was a school teacher for 6 years. Obtained a real estate
license in 1981 and a broker’s license in 1983.
He is active at in all levels of real estate. He has the
ABR, ABRM, CRB, CRS, GRI, and broker designations. He is
the past president of the local MLS and Board of REALTORS®.
He is a member of the State Board of Directors. He is also
currently state officer for the Iowa CRS chapter. John
is a Co-owner and designated broker of Century 21 Jacobsen
Real Estate in Spencer, Iowa. |

Marie S.
Spodek, DREI, GRI, CBR
Marie S. Spodek’s highly regarded career in real
estate has spanned more than twenty-five years—as
an agent, sales trainer, prelicense school owner, continuing
education instructor, author and management consultant
for a number of REALTOR® organizations. She started
teaching for the Iowa Association of REALTORS® in
1996, first in prelicensing, then continuing education
courses.
She is best known for adhering to schedules, especially
when it comes to breaks!
Spodek owned and directed the Professional School of Real
Estate, in Charleston, SC and grew the school from the
smallest in the area to the second largest in the state.
She served as the Director of Education at the Charleston
Trident Association of REALTORS® when she merged two
schools. Spodek received her B.A. in 1965 from Augustana
College in Sioux Falls, SD and then studied in India as
a Fulbright Scholar.
In 1996, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency gave
special recognition to Ms. Spodek for developing a seminar “Reducing
Radon Risk in Real Estate Transactions,” now offered
throughout the country. Recognizing her work as a teacher,
trainer, motivator, and salesperson in the field of real
estate, REEA awarded her the REEA Jack Wiedemer Distinguished
Career Award in 2001. In 2004, REEA named a course she
developed “Caught on Camera: Antitrust in the 21st
Century” as Education Program of the Year.

Judy Stevens, CRS, GRI, CRB
First a microbiologist and a landlord, then a REALTOR®,
Broker and manager, Judy Stevens teaches from experience.
With 29 years of real estate experience, Judy still sells
real estate and was a Broker Manager for 15 years at
Skogman Realty in Cedar Rapids.
She has had the opportunity to serve on numerous
committees for the Cedar Rapids Area Association
of Realtors® including: Professional Standards, MLS Program,
Entertainment, Board of Directors, Education and was also Chairperson of their
Realtor® Development Committee for 4 years. She has also served on Ethics
hearing panels at both local and state levels and was on the Iowa Real Estate
Exam Review Committee.
Judy is currently serving as a commissioner on the Real Estate Commission. Judy
has been instructing Real Estate Education classes for 23 years and counting.
Judy Stevens is not just another boring lecturer but a real class facilitator
with her diverse real estate experience as a background for her ever-popular
classroom discussions. |

Don Wagner
Don is a graduate of San Francisco State University.
He did graduate studies and received his teaching certification
at Drake University in Des Moines.
He was the MLS chairman and board Vice President for the
Greater Des Moines Board of REALTORS®.
In 1987, he was awarded the "REALTOR® of the
Year" by the Board of REALTORS®.
Don also served as Director of Education for the Iowa
Association of REALTORS® and during his tenure he was
recognized by the National Association of REALTORS® for
developing the outstanding education program of the year.
Don has been involved in all phases of real estate, including
residential, investment, commercial and property management. |

Shelly Youngberg
Shelly has been an approved Real Estate instructor in
the states of Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska for eight
(8) years. She currently is in her eighth year teaching
Pre-License for the Greater Sioux City Board of REALTORS®,
as well as Law Update and various other elective courses.
Before beginning teaching Real Estate Courses Shelly worked
as a Licensed personal assistant for several Realtors in
the Sioux City area. Prior to earning her real estate license
shelly taught public school for 7 years as well as 2 years
of college courses. Shelly and her husband, Adam, have
two children and reside in Sioux City, Iowa. |
